Boston hosts the first Acute HIV Infection Meeting in September 2009

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Harvard University's Center for AIDS Research co-sponsored the first Acute HIV Infection Meeting in Boston, MA, on September 22-23, 2009 at the Joseph B. Martin Conference Center at Harvard Medical School.

More than 220 leading scientists and clinicians from five continents gathered at the HIV Acute Infection Meeting to hear prominent researchers share new insights into the early, critical events of HIV. Key findings pointed to the importance of capturing acutely infected individuals as early as possible and strengthening understanding of the transmission and biology of HIV in its earliest stages.

State-of-the-art talks and new research developments were presented on virology, immunology, transmission biology, and clinical science related to early HIV infection.  In addition, over 40 posters were chosen to display new research advances in acute HIV infection research.
